Hailmary

With press quotes from Australia’s leading heavy music publication “Heavy Mag” such as -"poised to become one of the next big things in the Australian hard rock arena” | “fronted by one of the country's best rock vocalists” and | “has the potential to mix it with any of the top tier bands, not only in Australia but worldwide” - you know the band is worth checking out.

Originating from one of the most isolated cities in the world, West Aussie based hard rock outfit Hailmary are living proof that raw talent, ambition and a kick ass work ethic can pay off in today’s challenging live music landscape.

Renowned as one of Australia's hardest working independent bands, their relentless touring, combined with their criticically acclaimed live performance has solidified them as one of the best emerging heavy/hard rock bands currently on the scene.

With hook driven vocal choruses and a pummelling backline, Hailmary blends elements of dirty ballsy hard rock with sludgy riffs, a grungy bottom end at times tinged with a sexy swagger to create a style that is uniquely their own.

In 2014 the momentum continues to build following the highly successful May release and 6 State National tour of “Navigate The Sunrise” a stunning 5 track EP that has garned huge support across the music industry and fans, both in Australia and overeas.

To promote the release, the band embarked on their first national tour. The “Navigate The Sunrise Australian Tour” was a 26 date headline run of shows that took in all 6 states of Australia across May – August and included spots on the Wallapalooza Festival on the Gold Coast (June 8),the Rock N Load Festival in Melbourne (June 21) and Brewtality Festival in Melbourne on August 2

Navigate The Sunrise was recorded at Vasectomy Studio in Western Australia, engineered by Hailmary drummer Vassya Shevtsov with co-production by Shevtsov, Hailmary singer/songwriter Kevin Curran and long time Hailmary collaborator and world renowned Producer, Jeff Tomei (Jerry Cantrell, Smashing Pumpkins, Skid Row) out of his Cock of The Walk Studio in Atlanta, USA, with mastering by Glenn Schick at GSM in Seattle, USA.

The EP was written by Kevin Curran (Vocals / Guitar) and Vas Shevstov (Drums / Percussion /Vocals) and featured Karnivool's John Stockman on bass who stepped in to record the tracks following the departure of Hailmary bassist Nairn McKay in 2013. Former Dead City Ruins bassist, Melbourne's Mick Quee who took on the NTS touring bass duties now forms part of the official lineup, along with retro guitar afficienado Paul Cush.

Despite some fluidity in the lineup, there was no doubting that 2013 was the “game-changer” year following the November 2012 release and relentless touring of their debut Album “Choice Path Consequence Solution” (CPCS) which was recorded over a 2 month period at Tomei’s Studio in the US.

The Album, which followed two previously well credentialed and WAMi Award winning EP’s “Lottery of Life” and “A Million Miles and Days” received strong national and international airplay, (traditional and online) and a stack of solid reviews and media interest particularly throughout the US, Europe and Australia and was the catalyst in Hailmary increasing their profile from that of a “local” Perth band to one with a national and indeed international profile.

Via a successful AMRAP and AirIt application over 60 community radio stations have played songs from the debut Album with a large percentage adding to regular playlists, along with airplay from Andrew Haug on Haug Radio and national commercial airplay on Australia's No 1 rock station - Triple M with Higgo.

The official Film Clip from the Album for the lead track “Yellow Light of Death” was exclusively launched by Heavy Mag in Feb, 2014 along with an international digital re-release of a deluxe version of the CPCS Album featuring acoustic renditions of both “Yellow Light of Death” and “Control Freak”. The fact that two of the heaviest songs on the Album translated well into acoustic mode is a testament to the ability of singer/songwriter Kevin Curran.

Since setting foot on the Espy Front Bar (St Kilda) - arguably Australia's most iconic and well respected rock stage - at the inaugural Rock N Load Festival in 2012, the profile that the band has built since has been nothing short of explosive,

By the end of 2013, interest in the live shows from Victorian promoters, bands and fans was such that in 18 months they had racked up over 170,000kms in air travel and completed 8 Victorian tours and 45+ Victorian shows, including Festivals – Rock N Load, Brew-Tality Fest and Rock the Bay and shared the stage with many of the top emerging Aussie rock metal and alternate acts including The Beards, Electric Mary, Sleep Parade, King of the North, EMPRA, The Deep End, MASSIVE, Gay Paris, My Left Boot, My Dynamite, Palace of the King, Bronson, Witchgrinder and Jericco.

No wonder they are often referred to as the “The Melbourne band that lives in Perth” or that they hail from “Perbourne”.

Hailmary are poised to take it to the next level with plans in place to hit Europe and the UK in 2015, plans that will certainly keep these road warriors racking up frequent flyer points and fans both nationally and internationally
